Live Mary to Give Christ

“God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong” (1 Cor 1:27).

Consecrated to the Living One in Mary

The Baptism we have received places us in the vital space of Christ: in him we breathe, we move, we think, we love (see Acts 17:28). A seed of eternal life is transplanted into our soul, so that it might grow to maturity and reach every fiber of our being. Baptism is a dynamic reality. It catapults us onto the raceway of a stadium where we are surrounded by saints cheering us on. We don’t run for a gold medal, but toward a merciful Father who awaits us with open arms. He wants us to participate in the glory of his Son, Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who first ran that race to the finish to open a way for us (see Heb 12:1–2).

We will never cease to be amazed at what this first sacrament works within us. In the womb of Mary, human nature and divine nature were united for the first time. Similarly, in the baptismal font—a true Marian icon—the Spirit of Christ bonds indissolubly with our flesh. The miracle of the incarnation is [in a sense]1 repeated in the human person. In the framework of a birth without time, Baptism makes the created person a participant in the whole pathway of Christ from Bethlehem to the Kingdom of heaven, but not without passing through the cross and the silence of Holy Saturday.2
